Kati's Recent ThoughtDo you know why some Christians celebrate Passover and some celebrate Easter? They're the same thing, right? Wrong. There are many differences between these two days of celebration. One is that Easter is a holiday and Passover is a Holy day. Passover is one of God's Holy days, the one where a perfect lamb was sacrificed to cover the sins of the people for the year. Before Jesus was crucified, a real lamb was used to teach the Israelites what the Passover was and why to keep it. Jesus was our Passover lamb forever and always and we keep the Passover to remember that our sins were covered by Him! Jesus died for me and you and we must never forget that. That is why we celebrate the Passover, to remember that Jesus was our Passover lamb. In contrast, Easter is a man-made holiday that glorifies His rising. Yes, Jesus mentions his rising Matthew 16:21, Matthew 26:32, Mark 8:31, and Mark 10:34 but he doesn't make a big deal about it. Also, Easter has never ben mentioned in the Bible. Man came up with Easter all by himself. Besides being un-Biblical, Easter is on the wrong day. The Bible says that Jesus was dead and in the grave for three days and three nights Matthew 12:40, not three days and two nights as the Easter calender says. I don't want to beat down Easter too much, but Easter was actually started in ancient Mesopotamia as a festival to the Goddess of Love and War(funny how those two things tend to go together)called Ishtar or Astarte. The Bible doesn't say to not remember the Resurrection, it is a good thing to remember. Just don't over emphasize it, or forget why Jesus had to die in the first place. Until next time,
