Let's Live It - Part 2

Last week we learned about keeping the Sabbath. This week we are going to talk about living our faith day to day. How did Jesus live? What did He do? How did He treat others? What were His attitudes?

These are a few things we are going to discuss today in our quest to learn how to live like Jesus did. He is our example of the way we should be living our lives.

What was one of the things Jesus did frequently by Himself? (He found a solitary place and prayed to His Father in heaven)

Mark 1:35 “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.”

Matthew 14:23 “And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there."

Luke 5:16 “So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed."

Mark 6:46 “And when He had sent them away, He departed to the mountain to pray."

Luke 6:12 “Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God."

We see that prayer was very important to Jesus. He took every opportunity He had to spend time in prayer to God. Sometimes Jesus even prayed all night.

We should also learn to take every opportunity to spend time in prayer. Prayer will deepen our relationship with God.

Another characteristic of Jesus was His love and compassion for people. He spent time with those society considered worthless. He healed many.

Matthew 14:14 “And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.

Matthew 9:35-36 ” Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd."

Matthew 4:23-24 “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.

Although we may not have the gift of healing the same way Jesus did, we can comfort those who are hurting and we can visit those who are ill. Maybe someone you know just needs someone to spend time with them or someone who will listen to them. Healing comes in very different forms. We can show our compassion to others. Can you think of ways we can show compassion to others?

Jesus attended Sabbath services and the Holy Days. We can follow His example by attending these special days also.

Luke 4:16 “So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read."

Mark 1:21 “Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught."

John 2:23 “Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did."

Jesus had a servant attitude. (Mark 9:33-37) (John 13:3- 17)

Jesus didn’t treat people that were outcasts or were poor or sick any different than He treated the rich and powerful. He didn’t recognize class or status as worthy of better or worse treatment. He had dinner with a tax collector. (Luke 19:1-10) He healed a Roman centurion’s servant. (Matthew 8:5- 13) He talked to a Samaritan woman. (John 4:9-43) He touched a leper and healed him. (Matthew 8:1-3) He brought a rich man’s daughter back to life. (Matthew 9:18-25) He cast out demons (Mark 9:16-29) He taught us to forgive. (John 8:3-11) (Matthew 6:12-15) (Matthew 18:21-35) (Mark 11:25-26) (Luke 7:41-47)

Jesus chose to became human so we would know that we are worshipping a God that understands us completely. Jesus lived the pattern for our lives so we would know how He wants us to live our lives. The only way to know Him is to read about Him in your Bibles. Make time everyday to read about Him and learn how to live and treat others as He did.
